Preparing your visit
The questions I am asked most often before an appointment, so that your scan takes place in the best conditions.
For pregnancy scans
Please avoid applying gel, cream or oil to your belly for at least 72 hours before your appointment, as they can prevent the ultrasound from penetrating properly and affect image quality.
Should I come with a full or an empty bladder?
Apart from specific cases, such as contraindications to transvaginal ultrasound (for example if you have never had intercourse), which we will discuss when booking, there is no need to come with a full bladder. Good hydration is however recommended in the 24 to 48 hours before the scan, about 1.5 litres of water a day.
Can I bring my children?
For the peace of mind of both patient and practitioner, and to ensure the scan runs smoothly, the 2022 CNEOF report states that “the presence of children, whatever their age, is not recommended during the ultrasound scan except in exceptional circumstances”. If you have no other option, please contact me through Doctolib messaging and we will find a solution together.
Can I film the scan as a keepsake?
Cameras and smartphones may not be used during the scan, in particular to respect professional confidentiality. You will receive a digital copy of the images after the scan, directly on your phone through the dedicated secure Medifile (opens in a new tab) app.
